Why this happens
A smooth top is a wax surface that self-levelled while still fluid. If the pour was too cool, or the candle was jostled, the surface sets in patches and cures grainy.
Likely causes
- Pour temperature too low for the wax to self-level.
- Candle was moved or jostled during set.
- Cold ambient temperature.
How to diagnose
- Check candle for any movement during the first 4 hours of cure.
- Compare pour temp to wax spec.
