What must appear on a candle label sold in European Union
EN 15494:2019 · CLP Reg. (EC) 1272/2008 · Reg. (EU) 2023/1545 · PCN/UFI (mandatory for hazardous mixtures)
CLP hazard block with a UFI on the label whenever the mixture is classified as hazardous, matched to a Poison Centre Notification. Allergen list expands from 26 to 80 for products placed on the market from 31 July 2026.
Mandatory warning text
- WARNING: A burning candle is an open flame.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep away from children and pets.
- Keep away from anything that can catch fire.
- BS EN 15494:2019 candle safety statement:
- Trim wick to 10 mm before lighting.
- Do not burn candles closer than 10 cm apart.
- Do not burn in a draught.
- Place on a heat resistant surface.
- Do not move a burning candle.
- Extinguish flame if it comes too close to the candle holder.
- Do not use liquid to extinguish.
- Discontinue use when 10 mm of wax remains (pillar candles: 20 mm from base).
- Language: label must include at least English and the official language(s) of every EU member state where the product is placed on the market.
- France: apply the Triman + Info-tri sorting mark (AGEC law).
- Germany: register packaging under VerpackG (LUCID) and display the recycling mark.

Additional pictograms (use when the format triggers them)
- Use a heat resistant candle holder
- Use in a suitable bowl filled with water
- Keep candles at least 10 cm apart

If the fragrance mixture is classified hazardous
The following additional lines appear on the label when the fragrance oil load pushes the mixture into a CLP / GHS classification:
- EU CLP: submit a Poison Centre Notification (PCN) to ECHA and print the assigned UFI on the label.
