Wick is off-centre after cure
An off-centre wick burns unevenly, scorches one side of the vessel, and looks shoddy. Fix the rig, not the candle.
Written by Maya Holloway
Likely causes
- Wick bar slipped during pour or cure.
- Wick not glued at base.
- Vessel was bumped before set.
How to diagnose
- Inspect wick bar tension and base glue.
What to change next batch
- 01
Use a glue dot at the wick base and a proper wick bar.
- 02
Do not move the candle for at least 4 hours after pour.
- 03
If off-centre by less than 5 mm, gently heat-gun the surface and recentre while warm.
