Lavender Aromatherapy Tumbler

Essential oils run hotter than fragrance oils and burn off fast. Pour at 55°C to stay well below the 70°C flashpoint of lavender. Note: lavender essential oil is unsafe to burn around cats.

Ingredients

  • 216 g(216 g × 1)Golden Brands 464 Soy
  • WickCD 10
  • 8 oz Straight-Sided Tumbler
  • 6.0%(13 g)Bulgarian Lavender (Essential Oil)
  • Pour55°C

Burn notes

Approx. 42 hours per 8 oz. Throw is soft and close-range, this is a bedside candle.

Compatibility notes

  • Pour temp 55°C is 2°C below Golden Brands 464 Soy's minimum (57°C). Pouring below the wax's published range (57–63°C) causes premature setting on the vessel walls, frosting, sinkholes, poor glass adhesion (wet spots), and uneven scent distribution. If a fragrance flash point forces you below this minimum, the safer fix is to swap to a wax with a lower pour range or to a higher-flash-point fragrance, not to pour cold.
  • Bulgarian Lavender (Essential Oil) is toxic to cats when burned indoors. Pets lack the liver enzymes to metabolise many essential-oil terpenes. Avoid burning these candles in rooms shared with cats, or substitute a fragrance oil with a similar scent profile.

Method

  1. 01

Weigh the wax into a pouring pitcher to the gram. Accuracy here decides everything downstream.

  2. 02

Heat the wax in a double boiler to 80°C, stirring gently until fully clear. Do not exceed 85°C.

  3. 03

Take the pitcher off the heat. Let the wax cool to 60°C, then stir in fragrance and dye, if used, for a full two minutes.

  4. 04

Continue cooling, stirring occasionally, until the wax reaches 55°C.

  5. 05

Pre-warm the vessels in a 50°C oven for ten minutes. Centre the wick, fix it with a wick bar.

  6. 06

Pour in a single steady stream into one side of the vessel until full. Do not move the vessels for at least four hours.

  7. 07

Cure undisturbed at room temperature for 10 days before the first burn. The scent throw climbs the entire time.

  8. 08

Trim the wick to 5 mm before lighting. Burn the first time for two hours minimum to set the memory ring.
