Best Autumn Candle Scents for 2026: 10 Blends That Sell Through to November
The autumn candle market opens in mid-August and runs to late November. Ten scent blends that sell, when to launch them, and the wax and vessel pairings that match the season's mood.

The autumn candle window in the UK opens earlier than most makers think. John Lewis puts seasonal home fragrance on shelf from mid-August. The supermarkets follow in early September. By October, autumn candles are the single biggest category in home fragrance retail. If you're selling, you need stock ready to ship by 15 August and cured by then, which means pouring no later than the end of July.
The 2026 autumn scent map
Three families dominate UK autumn sales: spiced apple and orchard fruit, woody-smoky with leather or tobacco, and warm gourmand with vanilla and toffee. Pumpkin spice is bigger in the US than the UK, but it has been creeping up here too since about 2020.
10 autumn blends
1. Spiced apple, cinnamon, vanilla. The UK autumn bestseller. 25/50/25. Pair with amber glass.
2. Pear, brown sugar, sandalwood. Softer, less spice-led, sells well into early winter.
3. Fig, smoked oak, vetiver. The premium option. 20/50/30 for a heavier base. Pair with matte black ceramic.
4. Pumpkin, clove, tonka. The Americanism. Sells brilliantly to under-30s; older buyers find it cloying.
5. Bonfire, cedar, leather. A distinctly British 5 November blend. Launch first week of October, sells through Guy Fawkes.
6. Apple crumble, oat, butter. Foodie autumn. Best in small vessels (200ml) at a higher price-per-gram.
7. Blackberry, sage, oakmoss. The countryside walk in a candle. A favourite of the National Trust gift shops.
8. Hazelnut, coffee, vanilla. Coffee-shop autumn. Pair with cream stoneware.
9. Pomegranate, mulled wine spice, amber. Bridges autumn and Christmas; launch in November to pivot the range.
10. Tobacco, vanilla, oud. The premium men's gift candle. Higher price-point, smaller pours.
Vessels and wax
Autumn buyers respond to warm-toned glass (amber, smoke, copper) and to matte ceramics in earthy tones. White and clear glass underperform from September onwards. Coconut-soy is the right wax for autumn premium pours: it carries the spiced base notes brilliantly and gives the smooth tops that photograph well. Pure soy works for value tiers but tends to frost in the warm-then-cold British autumn, which is a returns risk.
Launch and cure timing
Pour by 25 July for a 15 August launch. Cure two weeks. Photograph in week three. List week four. Restock pours go in every two weeks from mid-August through to early November. After 5 November, pivot the range towards Christmas with the Christmas scent blends.
Frequently asked
- When should I launch autumn candles in the UK?
- Mid-August. Major UK retailers put seasonal home fragrance on shelf from around the 15th of August. Pour no later than the end of July to give a full two-week cure before listing.
- What are the bestselling autumn candle scents?
- Spiced apple with cinnamon and vanilla is the UK's consistent autumn bestseller. Fig with smoked oak is the premium leader. Pumpkin spice sells strongly to under-30 buyers but underperforms with older demographics.
- What wax is best for autumn candles?
- Coconut-soy blends carry warm spice and gourmand notes best and give the smooth tops that sell on Instagram. Pure soy works for value tiers but is prone to autumn frosting in the UK climate.

- Mid-August to early November in the UK, with sales peaking in late September and October. After Guy Fawkes Night on 5 November, pivot the range to Christmas blends.
