Wet spots between wax and glass

Wet spots are not actually wet. They are air gaps where the wax has shrunk away from the glass. Aesthetic only, but they tank perceived quality on premium tumblers.

Likely causes

  • Vessel was too cold at pour.
  • Pour temperature mismatched to the wax.
  • Vessel surface had residue (release agent, oil, dust).

How to diagnose

  • Inspect the inside of new vessels for film or residue.
  • Check pour temp logged against wax spec.

What to change next batch

  1. 01

Pre-warm vessels in a 50°C oven for 10 minutes immediately before pouring.

  2. 02

Clean vessels with isopropyl alcohol and a lint-free cloth.

  3. 03

Pour at the lower end of the wax's recommended range and cool slowly.
